SPORTS Sports movies do a great job of grafting compelling narratives over the too-often random occurrences on the sports field. Even though sports films play you like a Stradivarius we find this preferable to being played like an out-of-tune pianola like real sports often do. But what we don’t get enough of is future sport movies. Movies where a sport involving lasers becomes some sort of metaphor for a future cultural/political situation. Just think what could be said of the future if a film was made mixing soccer and candlesticks, or was about a professional bull rush league, or even delved into Latin Rhythm’s hypothesised game involving a bike helmet and a Cabbage Patch doll!
