Internet fads are often confusing and nearly always annoying, except the Chuck Norris one of course, as the world really needs a new God of War and there are no other serious candidates that we know of. The current upcoming fad appears to be trying to trick people into clicking on a link from Youtube that leads to a crappy 80s singer called Rick Astley, which gives rise to the name “rickrolling”. Now this appears to have three distinct elements – the first being deception, the second being the lols that are derived by the thought of the victim watching a crappy music video, and the third being the hope that this Astley guy becomes an icon, sort of like what was done with Chuck, which is pretty shameless and derivative. We don’t approve, and we would much rather see something edgy, possibly with a tag line along the lines of “Bohemia is a state of mind, US out of Iraq LOL”
A similar level of lameness is shared by people that make documentaries or news items about naturists or naturist camps, then delight in artful camera shots and humorous placement of everyday objects. If this is one of life’s guilty pleasures then Karate Party, at the risk of sounding emo, doesn’t want to live.
On a happier note, our link of the week is a delightfully paranoid article from the US about a North American Union. Apparently the author deeply fears the influence of the British Commonwealth. This of course is lolworthy and shows the perils of writing contemporary political analysis while nursing a deep hatred of George III. Oh and Roger? The answer to #20 is “no one human”
