While hunting for loose change in a pair of historical pants I found a scrap of paper with a phone number on it. That number later lead to a conversation. Still later a mysterious man entered our lives. This is his story.
Karate Party Profiles Li Hongzhang is a culturally ambiguous individual born in the mysterious land of China during an era of food rationing and in which NOTHING AT ALL HAPPENED IN *THAT* SQUARE. Shortly after meeting Deng Xiaoping on the banks of Hangzhou's West Lake (during which a 3-year old Li Hongzhang grabbed onto Grandpa Deng's leg and had to be pulled off by heavily armed soldiers), he moved to the United States. Nineteen years later, including several swinging through the jungles [This is a metaphor. Ed] of Wall Street, and an unexpected sentence of one year's transportation to the convict colony [Karate Party is pro-active on reintegration. Ed], he found himself... back in Hangzhou.
Artist's rendition of a typical dream of our author Li Hongzhang dreams of the day he can return to his native land of Manhattan, put his feet up on the porch, pour hisself a glass of lemonade, fondle his shotgun, watch his cotton grow, and wait for the Confederacy to rise again. |
